Anglesey March 2005
Trearddur Bay / Porth Dafarch / Old Lifeboat Station

Easter Sunday was originally planned for St Abb's, but with weather and tide considerations it was decided to change to Anglesey.

An ideal spot for some easy shore diving, we made our way to Trearddur Bay. A good group turned out for was a nice day, consisting of club members (some their very first UK sea dive and many of the Dive Club Professionals.

A big thank you must go to Shawn who organised the day, and all of the instructors and divemasters who turned up to help with looking after the new divers. This is a very important part of the club environment where the experienced divers give up their free time to enjoy the enthusiasm of someone's first sea dive.

Cameras abounded so expect to see some more pictures on the Buddy Board.

After all meeting up we decided to move up to Porth Dafarch which has ideal entry conditions, but unfortunately although the sea was generally calm, quite big rollers were comming in at intervals making it very tricky to judge.

Not to be put off, Shawn with extensive local knowlege took us all off to a more sheltered spot just up the road at Holyhead Harbour. Here we met up with a number of other dive clubs who had similar plans. Entry here was simply as easy as it could be, a great spot for future first sea dives. Parking right next to the sea, hard standing and good clearly defined diving area.

Following the day's diving a short trip was in order, and some nutter suggested that we should all go and see the famous lighthouse at South Stack built in 1809. It started well enough with coffee and muffins in the cafe, and then the steps..........

The lighthouse is spectacular. Set on rocks out into the Irish Sea at the tip of Holyhead. Being high on the cliffs (twitchers paradise) looking down at over 400 steps, plus a ladder, a walkway, more steps, and then a climb up 28 metres of more steps is quite a site. Well, we all made it.
