St. Mary's Island 2004

By Diver SE

Big thanks to Mike and the rest of the group for making the trip up to St. Mary's Island a great day out.

The day was set out as an introduction for newly qualified divers to get a taste of UK sea diving and boy it was. Conditions were not perfect for a shore dive (how often are they in the UK) with a slight swell and a little surf braking on the rocks made for a rather entertaining entry, but all went well.

The conditions under the water were again what we some times get when the wind has blown for a day or two, a little stirred up with visibility 1 - 11/2 meters and I my self found a depth of 3.2m max (diving on a twin 12L cylinder set up was a little over kill, I think I came out with more air than I went in with, but hay if this is all you have you have to make do) there was a sprinkling of sea life to be seen consisting of shore crabs, wrasse etc. Mike claimed to have seen the most but due to the visibility (and some may say his navigation) I tend to think myself he was swimming round in circles and bumping into the same crab……

Still great day out in a beautiful part of our country, and the weather was great too.

Looking forward to the next Club trip all ready….

P.S. A thank you also goes to this young lady for keeping an eye on the burgers I cooked…
