How we started
The Divemaster Scuba Club was originally started in late 2000 and affiliated to BSAC the
National Governing body for Scuba Diving in the UK in early 2001. Since then over 1,000
people have joined the dive club at various levels befitting from group insurance, organised
dive trips and holidays.
The club has always been run on an open and non-profit making basis, by divers for the
benefit of divers and their families.
At Divemaster Scuba we have always appreciated that not everyone has the time to devote
to Scuba Diving as a main UK sport so we came up with a two level membership system.
1. Basic Club Diver Membership
Ideal for occasional divers who may only dive on holiday a couple of times a year, but would
like to make use of the pool for practice and recreational sessions. This is organised on a
“pay-as-you-go” basis keeping costs down to an absolute minimum. You will be covered by
our third-part insurance for club organised events only.
2. Premier Club Diver Membership
This includes free uses of the pool, personal membership to BSAC, personal worldwide
third-party diving insurance, free crossover and continuation BSAC courses, monthly
magazine, special BSAC discounts and affiliation to the sport’s National Governing Body.

Who runs and owns the club?
BSAC is owned
and run by you,
its members.
We have a committee
elected by the club members
who give up their free time to look
after the day to day running of the club.
How are my PADI certifications recognised?
All your hard work and previous training is
taken into account.
You will be able to take part in club activities,
trips and events to your current certification
level straight away.
At some point you may wish to cross-over or
gain dual certification, not a problem. We just
need to put in place a training program to cover
any differences we may come across.
As part of your introduction to the club, at the welcome evening
you will be given an introduction to BSAC safe diving practices
and an overview of alternative table use.... they are very easy.
I’ve just moved to the area and part way through a BSAC
course, can I finish my qualifications with you?
Not a problem, we just need to transfer your main
BSAC membership from your old branch/club, sort
out a plan and away we go. The club secretary will
do all this for you.
We will need to see your training logbook so that
we know exactly where we are with everything.
Once we’ve completed the training, our
Diving Officer will issue you with the
certification.
If your student training pack is out of date or
you have lost it, we can supply replacements
through the club at member’s rates.
Do I have to take a BSAC course to be a member?
No, and you don’t have to hover above the
water either. As with most agencies you will
be able to join in all the activities to your
certification level.
As a qualified diver
you never have to
take a BSAC course
if you don’t want to.
Do I need to have all my own dive kit?
During any cross-over or
continuation training the club
has access to basic equipment
such as masks, fins, snorkels,
regulators, bcd’s and cylinders
which are available for loan
free of charge.
Air fills for personal use are
available through the club at
only £1.
Personal items such as dry-suits and wetsuits can be
hired by the member locally or at the dive sites.
Is my BSAC membership transferable
between clubs?
Of course it is...
People move around through
work or personal reasons all
the time.
If you are a member of another
BSAC club/branch, just bring
in your details and the club
secretary will sort it all out
for you.
Can I also continue with my PADI training?
Of course you can........
Many professional instructors
and dive guides have dual
certifications. If you can teach
either PADI or BSAC this
increases your employability,
and respect in the industry.
As a recreational diver you
will benefit from understanding
alternative training methodology, which will add a great
of variety to your diving.
Who organises all the
trips and events?
We all do.......
It usually starts off with
a suggestion in the pub and then
we set someone on it.
Regular events such as old
fashioned diving, shark tank
diving and diving with the seals
are reserved almost a year
ahead and open to all
members subject only to any
qualification restrictions set
by the venues..
My buddy’s PADI and I’m BSAC,
does it matter?
Of course it doesn’t
Agencies train in slightly different
ways, but it all comes down to
common sense and safe
diving practices.
You simply have to dive within
the criteria set by the agency.
For instance, a BSAC Ocean Diver rated to 20 meters would need to
stay with his PADI Open Water buddy at 18 metres. A PADI Advanced
Diver diving with a BSAC Sports Diver could go to 30 metres but both
would have to dive within the no decompression limits.
I’m disruptive, like playing politics, don’t compromise,
antisocial, I only think of me, me, me.....
Can I join?
Please go somewhere else.
Clubs are not for hitting
people with.
