First Aid - Appointed Persons in the Workplace

The Health and safety regulations 1981 set out the essential aspects of first aid which employers must address and make provision for. The First Aid at Work Approved Code of Practice and guidance gives practical advice and guidance with respect to theses regulations.

It is the duty of an employer to ensure suitable numbers of persons have been trained to render first aid to employees should they become ill or injured at work.

First Aid Training

In certain circumstances it may be adequate and appropriate to appoint persons to take charge of first aid arrangements including looking after first aid equipment and calling emergency services when required. An employer may appoint a person to do this and the HSE recommends that appointed persons undergo emergency first aid training. The combined Emergency First Response Primary and secondary Care programme more than meets the Health and Safety Executive Appointed Persons First Aid recommendations. We have run a number of commercial First Aid Courses for industry, for further details contact the Dive Centre.
